NaNoWriMo
October 17th, 2006
I’m all set for NaNoWriMo this year. I signed up last year but something or other happened (can’t really remember what) but I got off to a late start and couldn’t really get going after that. The novel I’d planned to write was one that I really wanted to do and had too much invested in. And it’s not the happiest of stories either. Whenever I think about it I get both excited and depressed at the same time: excited because I really want to write it and I love the story; depressed because it gets me thinking too much about the state of the world and Australia in particular.
This year I’m going to treat it as the writing exercise it is and not worry about whether or not this might be “the” novel. I came up with something that’s reasonably silly enough so that I’ll enjoy writing it, but not so silly that I won’t be able to take it seriously. I’m still hashing out the details in my head, but I’ve got enough already that when November 1 rolls around I know I’ll be able to sit down and just start writing.
I have a feeling this is going to be fun. It might mean that my Sims stories will get behind a little but they’ll still be there waiting for me when I get back to them. Let’s hope so anyway. Sims are awfully tempermental ;)
