Experimental: Chapter 1
November 1st, 2006
The room is small and sterile: fluorescent lights, plain white walls, tiles on the floor; one of the lights has been damaged, it flickers and hurts the eyes of the man lying on the gurney in the centre of the room. A slow, careful blink is the only movement he’s dared make for a while; anything else has just hurt too much. The light is bothering him though so he finally succeeds in throwing a hand up over his eyes to protect them. The sight of his own hand shocks him into sitting up too suddenly and he cries out briefly as his locked-up muscles protest the movement.
Green? Scales? What the..? He stares at his arm and hands, barely able to recognise them as his own, however, for the life of him, he can’t bring forth a memory of what they used to look like, or even when that might have been. He’s certain they weren’t like this though. Suddenly panicked he runs his hands over his head in case anything else is different. His search reveals coarse, shoulder-length hair desperately in need of a comb, an overly square jaw, large nose, prominent eyebrows, but nothing that really seems unusual. Well, nothing unusual unless you count the short, stubby horns poking out of the top of his forehead. Fortunately, a quick visual examination revealed no tail or wings though; just a rather muscled body which didn’t seem right either for some reason. Nor did the lack of clothes. Going to have to do something about that first up, he thought.
He slid to the ground tentatively, not confident yet in the strength of his own legs. That’s when he looked down and saw them: a nice, big pile of bodies stacked up on the floor. There must have been a dozen at least, scientists for the most part judging by the prevalence of lab coats. The man frowned and looked around in confusion.
“Huh.”
