Experimental: Chapter 3
November 1st, 2006
“Oh God, Oh God, Oh God,” whimpered the frightened young woman in yet another room. “Where are my hands? Where am I? Oh God, Oh God.” She sat in a corner of the room with her legs hugged to her chest, unconsciously rocking to-and-fro, her eyes alternating between the four dead bodies stacked neatly in the centre of the room and her hands; or at least she would be looking at her hands if she could see them.
When she’d first come to she’d noticed a lab coat lying next to her on the bed. Preoccupied with trying to get the coat to fit her small frame she hadn’t noticed the bodies at first. The moment she did, she promptly screamed and scurried into the furthest corner of the room in a futile attempt to hide. Then again, perhaps it wasn’t so futile after all. At some point she’d taken her eyes off the dead people long enough to notice that she could no longer see her hands, or her feet, or any other part of her body for that matter; even the lab coat was mysteriously missing. Although ‘missing’ wasn’t quite the correct word. She could still feel the coat and she could definitely feel her legs as she hugged them tightly to her chest. She just couldn’t see them any more.
“What’s going on?” she whispered as she wiped away an invisible tear.
