Experimental: Chapter 4

The young man lying on the operating table suddenly jerked upright and slammed his head straight into a low-hanging overhead light. “Ow! Son of a…”

He shook his head to clear away the wool that seemed to have taken up residence then ran a hand through messy, red hair. Wait a sec, what was that? He frowned and pulled his hand down again to stare at in disbelief. He had a robotic hand! It was skeletal in appearance but metallic, extending up the joint of his elbow and definitely robotics of some kind. He experimentally made a fist and stared in fascination as the tiny parts responded perfectly. His left hand appeared to be completely normal, but a closer inspection of that arm revealed panels that slid aside to display various of useful little tools, USB adapters, tiny screwdrivers, chip removal tools, the works.

“This is so cool!” he exclaimed loudly in the silence of the operating theatre. “Now to find some clothes.” Spotting a cupboard he jumped down and strolled over to it. “Let’s see what’s behind door number one, shall we?” he said as he reached out to turn the doorknob. The door flew open at his touch and he was forced to spring backwards to avoid two people falling on him; two very dead people, in fact.

“Okay, now this is definitely not cool.”
