What a great birthday present!
April 4th, 2007
I turned 29 yesterday and Ben managed to deliver the exact present I asked for: him getting a job. Tomorrow will mark our second month down here in Canberra and it’s been taking that long for the whole job-hunting process to finally reach the point of receiving job offers. The Federal Government employment process is ridiculous. It takes roughly a month after applications close for interviews to be called, then it’s nearly another month after that before they hire anybody. Of course, after that you need to wait a couple of weeks until you start work. Gah! Incredibly frustrating when you’re living off your savings and in your parent’s house.
Anyway, I joked with Ben that what I really wanted for my birthday was for him to receive a job offer and lo and behold! he received a call that afternoon offering him the job that he’d most wanted out of all the applications and interviews he’s been to (most of which will probably still be calling in the next few weeks - it really takes that long). Does my man deliver or does my man deliver?
It’s taken longer than I’d hoped, but we’re finally taking our first steps into actually living in Canberra. Hopefully the unit will sell up in Brisbane (property market has been a little slow there) in the next month which would coincide with the first pay cheque. Then (finally!) we can begin house-hunting which will lead to the lovely event of getting our stuff out of storage.
