Escape from Planet Limbo

After so much drama and searching and stupid auctions we finally have a house! Deposit has been made, contracts have been signed, and we can move in in just a few weeks. Luckily the sellers are as happy to speed everything up as we are. The house itself is only about 6 months old and in a slightly older part of Harrison , a new suburb. Yes, we get new suburbs in Canberra. The Land Development Agency opens up big pieces of unused land every so often to be developed for housing and pick out suburb names, design a theme for the street names and area in general. All very weird for somebody from Brisbane - I really don’t recall any new suburbs being opened up in Brisbane. Estates within suburbs yes, but not whole suburbs with new postcodes etc. Of course, Canberra itself is only about 94 years old apparently.
Anyway, this is the front of what will be our new house:

I love the gnome that the previous owners have out the front in this photo. I’ve got images of Sims sneaking into the yard and running off with it! The lawn in the front yard is kind of patchy thanks to the drought; I’m thinking that replacing it with some sort of tough, herbal lawn cover would be a good idea. Or simply a bunch of tough herbs or Australian Natives that won’t need much watering. I found a couple of gardening books in Mum and Dad’s collection, so I’ll read through those and see if there are any suggestions.
I’ve got a bunch of other photos from the internet ad for it, but they’re all with the previous owners furniture etc in it so I’ll wait until we’re settled in before I take some photos of how we’ve got it set up. For now just take my word for it: it’s niiiiice. Real nice. There are 4 bedrooms which seems excessive for two people until you take into account that Ben and I are both geeks and so we need a computer room each. If I get a laptop as my main computer we could have made do with only Ben getting a computer room and me dumping my laptop wherever I felt like working, but this is a much better solution. So that leaves the main bedroom and a spare room which will be our guest room. That’s right: no more sleeping on the couch for guests! Amazing! There’s also an ensuite and a main bathroom. We get a little bit of a backyard as well, but not so much that we’ll have to get a lawnmower. A whippersnipper thing should do fine. There’s certainly plenty of room to practice fire twirling though, although with the drought and the almost constant fire warnings we’ll probably stick to the non-fire twirling variety for now. Oh, and there’s a lane at the back of the house; that’s where the garage leads out to which is why you can’t see it in this picture.
In all I’d have to pronouce it “very cool”. Certainly a big change from our 2 bedroom, toilet-in-bathroom unit. Everything’s pretty much the way we would have done it which is a good sign. The previous owners are apparently a youngish couple with no kids. Just two big dogs which is why they’re selling. Turns out that two big dobermans are not happy with only having a small backyard, so their all moving back to their old house with it’s nice, big yard. What we do for our pets huh?
The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference is on at about the same time that we’ll be moving in to our new home, so if the gods are smiling the new Macbook Pro’s will be released and I’ll be able to get a nice, shiny new laptop. My first Mac ever. Provided the aforementioned gods are smiling, the specs are good, and it’s not ridiculously outside of the budget. Regardless I need a new computer and since I’ve been drooling over macs since I was a kid, this is a very good time to go for it what with fresh starts, a nice budget, and a computer that’s been upgraded as far as it can go.
Here’s to getting out of limbo!

Wow … this is a NICE house. I checked out the link that you posted over at Beans’ place and looked at the other photos. Wow … WOW! That is a NICE house! Does it come furnished with all those schnazzy flat screen tvs??? And it’s so big and SPACIOUS! WOO! Could use some color though. Hehe. And that bathroom is NIIIIIIIICE. And the kitchen … WOW!!! Congratulations.
