Can’t talk - life crazy!
August 2nd, 2007
Just a quick update. Obviously the ‘net is back, but things are a little nuts right now so not a lot of time for posts and haven’t really been playing my Sims either.
We moved in okay and the house is great. We’ve spent far too much money furnishing it since we were going from a 2 bedrooom unit to a 4 bedroom house, and a lot of stuff we just didn’t take with us as well. Still, it looks great and we made sure to get good quality furnishings that will last for a long time. My Macbook Pro arrived and it’s absolutely beautiful. Only problem right now is that I’m waiting for a patch to be released to fix a problem I (and hundreds of other people) are having with wireless internet and Airport. So I only have a stable internet connection in Windows using BootCamp which is where all my online games will be anyway so not that much of a problem. I’d rather be able to spend more time in OSX though. Best operating system ever. Absolutely love it and not regretting switching at all. When Sims 3 comes I’ll make sure to get the Mac version, thus seriously cutting down the time I have to spend in Windows.
The big, main reason that I’m not blogging or writing Sims stories right now would be that I’m getting married. Ben proposed to me the day we moved into our new house :) We were waiting around in the kitchen for the removalists to arrive, I turned around to say something to him and saw a little gift-wrapped box on the kitchen counter. When I opened it and saw a beautiful pearl ring inside I knew straight away and burst into tears like a real girly girl. Seriously, I though people only did that in movies! Weird :) I love pearls, but I’d told him ages ago that the only time I want a pearl ring is if it was that ring.
So far, no problem, all is right with the world. The problem came later when we figured that since Ben’s family (who live in Canada) will be in Australia in September for Ben’s sister’s wedding, we might as well get it out of the way around the same time. So now we’re getting married on the 1st September and for our honeymoon we get to go up to Brisbane for the other family wedding. I didn’t want a big, huge wedding anyway, but some time to plan and get used to the general craziness that seem to surround weddings would have been nice. Oh well. Good thing we have a backyard and get it over with there. At this point I’m thinking of just saying “stuff it” and wearing jeans. Cutting off the nose to spite the face and all that! I’ll probably just go get a nice but ordinary dress, but I’m definitely cutting my hair short so nobody’s tempted to put freakin’ flowers in it.
I’m also absolutely paralyzed at the thought of the vows part. I’m nearly 30 years old and in all that time nobody’s ever expected me to stand in front of a bunch of family and friends and wax lyrical about how much I love my boyfriend. I also already stumble over my words quite enough in a normal conversation. Ask me to talk in front of a lot of people (which I classify as more than 5! lol) and I have a nervous breakdown. Which I’m already practicising. The only thing I can think to do is to find the simplest, most clinical vows I can find and say those in front of everybody. The mushy stuff I can write down in a letter and give to Ben to read later. Apparently that will be very boring for the guests, but I’m thinking that if they came expecting dinner and a show then they came to the wrong place. Also the alternative is far worse. Having the bride burst in to tears and refuse to talk at all would be much worse, although possibly more entertaining for the guests.
So anyway, quietly freaking out here in Canberra. First the whole wedding business and then I’m going to have to get on a plane. I hate planes. I hate weddings. I just want to skip the next several weeks and get right to the married bit. The part where life returns to normal.
I just suck at being a girl. But I hate insects so probably a good thing I’m not a guy ;)
