Free steps? Bargain!
May 12th, 2008
So I unlocked a new aerobic exercise in the Wii Fit this morning. It’s called “Free step” (or something very close). Basically you turn the volume up on the Wii remote, and then you step on and off the balance board in time to the little “clip clop” noises coming out of the remote. You can change the noise or speed it up if you want. Once you’re happy with the rhythm you’ve got going you can change the channel to an actual tv channel and watch tv while you do your stepping up and down. Every so often the voice of your trainer comes out of the remote and says things like “keep your back straight” and “you’ve passed 200 steps” etc. The default is 10 minutes and when your time is up your trainer tells you and the remote buzzes as if it was a cooking timer.
I really enjoyed it. It felt like going for a short walk and being able to keep your mind occupied with something else while doing mindless exercise was great. I have a feeling that it’ll be even better if I pick another time to try it out again. The news can be interesting, but listening to Opposition-leader-whose-name-I-never-remember whine about how the upcoming budget he doesn’t know anything about yet is going to be crap was kind of boring. Oh well, perhaps there’ll be a decent movie on at lunchtime that isn’t yet another “thriller/mystery”interspersed with dodgy life insurance commercial. “No, as a matter of a fact I didn’t know I’m going to out of pocket thousands of dollars when I kick the bucket. Guess I’ll just get somebody to dump me off the side of a boat then!”
